FAQ

How to choose the chiropractor who is right for you?

Many people try to find a doctor who is in their insurance network. This is a great place to start, but it is usually helpful to try and find a doctor who has similar goals as you do when it comes to your health. Many chiropractors choose to limit their practice to pain relief only. That’s ok, but we choose to address wellness and prevention in our office. In addition to offering relief from pain, we can address other wellness factors that can be contributing to the original complaint.

what is vertebral subluxation?

A misaligned spinal bone that causes compression, tension, irritation and damage to the nervous system. Subluxations are caused by a lifetime of stress and trauma, including falls, accidents, lack of exercise, poor nutrition and even birth trauma.

How do I know if I have a subluxation?

You can have a subluxation and not even know it. Subluxations can be present for quite some time before any symptoms may appear, like a cavity or cancer. An examination can reveal the location and severity of any subluxations you may have.

Will I receive any medication if I am having pain?

No. Chiropractors do not dispense medication. Chiropractic relies on the body’s innate ability to heal itself. Ice may be suggested to relieve pain since it does have a natural analgesic effect without the side effects of pain medication.

Will adjustments hurt me or my baby/child?

No. Chiropractic adjustments are very safe. And an adjustment made to a baby’s spine or child’s spine is very different from the adjustment an adult will receive. Because an infant or child’s spine has not developed the long-standing muscle tightness found in adults, the amount of energy and force needed to adjust that spine is considerably less.

Can I get chiropractic care if I’ve had back surgery?

Yes. Any areas of the spine that have been surgically modified will be avoided. However, surgery oftens creates areas of instability above or below the surgical site. These reactive areas will be the focus of your chiropractic care.

Can patients with osteoporosis receive chiropractic care?

Yes. Regardless of age, size or condition, chiropractic care can be helpful. Lower force techniques are used on patients when it is necessary. Each patient’s specific needs are addressed and considered If chiropractic is not the answer for you, you will be referred to the appropriate specialist.

How long will it be until I feel better?

This depends on the patient. Some patients experience instant relief, and, for others, it can take months, sometimes years. Factors that can affect the healing process include age, overall health condition, muscle tone, diet and attitude.

Will my medical doctor approve of my decision to receive chiropractic care?

As with any decision regarding your health or the health of your child, you do not need the approval of a medical doctor to seek out a chiropractor’s expertise. Consulting another health professional is an excellent way to aid in the decision-making process when it comes to health issues affecting you or your family.
